XRSI at Defcon201 – The Reality of Securing Virtual Worlds

On May 22, 2021, our founder and CEO, Kavya Pearlman, and board member Ibrahim “Abe” Baggili spoke at the May 2021 DCG 201 Meet Up.

As stated by the organizers, “Since March of last year, the entire world had to become familiar with being more involved in the virtual world than it normally has. Zoom Meet Ups, Twitch LIVE Streams, Fortnite Concerts, and the revival of the classic Virtual Reality headset. Now cheaper and more advance than ever, this has opened up pathways to real-life versions of The Lawnmower Man and The Matrix except somehow more weird, boring, and horrifying because… you know, it’s this timeline”.

Kavya and Abe covered the emerging risks and challenges in the Virtual and Augmented Reality, explained how cyberattacks can be conducted and what’s new in that field, and also what can be done to prevent harm and to make the XR domain more secure.
